Fly Tying an Olive Sedge – Classic American Caddis Nymph

From Dave Hughes’ “American Fly Tying Manual” of 1986, the olive sedge is a simple lightly-weighted caddis nymph. The color of the body can be varied to match the caddis that hatch in various waters.

Hook: #12-16 curved or standard nymph
Weight: 0.015 wire
Body: Olive fur dubbing (or synthetic)
Throat: Brown partridge
Wing: Gray mallard slips
Head: Hare's mask
